Grand Opening of the Insomnia Cafe

Last spring, when I was looking for a job, I was told repeatedly by the other writers I network with that if I call myself a writer, I must have a blog. Blogging seems remarkably egocentric to me, but here goes.

I will credit the name "Insomnia Cafe" to my friend Renee, who is one of those friends who I always laugh with, but never see often enough. A few years ago I was up for several hours a night, every night. I woke up out of a deep sleep and was utterly, entirely awake. I tried everything: reading, laying there, exercising, watching TV, drinking milk, mediating, nothing worked. I stayed awake for 2-3 hours, then fell deeply back to sleep. Renee told me that she had been doing the same thing for about 3 years, and we joked that it would be fun to open a little tea house for all the peri-menopausal friends of ours who were also laying awake, wondering about when the hotflashes and crepey skin are going to begin. I named it the Insomnia Cafe, and here we are.

I can't imagine why this would have any bearing on getting a job. When I started shopping for a blog site, I checked out some suggested sites in a trade magazine I read. I started clicking on several of the blogs on one of the most popular and the first three were:
1)a very large woman exchanging pictures of her 'shopping for wedding favors' excursions in crafts stores,
2) links to a pornado of anal exploration, and
3) more of #2, with a different focus.

I guess I need to seek out the "real" bloggers who are respected in the Blogdom if I want to be accepted in the blogworld and ever have any chance at a respectable writing job.

Insomnia Cafe. There is no tea here. Just a serious writer with serious blogging potential. Taking myself very seriously. No, really.
